social enterprise

There are a number - a growing number - of social enterprises across the county, and the region, and the south west. There always have been many; they've only just been noticed. They're part of what's known as The Third Sector - not the private, or the public; the third, or community sector. Doesn't mean people don't get paid; it means they're working for something other than just the profit. Do you know any?
If you're interested in the concept - and we know a growing number of members are - have a look at the links. There is increasing support for this form of business model, now, and even free workshops for those who are thinking of setting one up. Check out the CoaST Calendar for more info...and watch this topic by clicking on the wee banner next to the owl on the right. We'll keep you right up to date.
And if you want to increase your purchasing from social enterprises, as a way of implemeting your ethical purchasing policy (especially helpful if you're going to green certification) then you could try the new Social Enterprise Directory....how jolly helpful! And if you know of a social enterprise that's not listed...you'll do the world a favour all round if you let them know about the Directory!
Your thoughts and comments are always welcome....
